The 3rd Workshop on Poverty and Alleviation

In order to strengthen scientech exchanges among poverty research institutions and concerned government departments, improve the development of China's poverty alleviation course, the 3rd Workshop on Poverty and Alleviation, co-organized by IAE and Poverty Research Committee of Chinese Society of Agro-technical Economics,  was held on Feb.14, 2003.

Participants of the Workshop came from the following institutions:  research division of State Department, Poverty Alleviation Office of State Department, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Civil Affaires, Ministry of Education, National Statistics Bureau, The People's Bank of China, Chinese Academy of Sciences,  Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Renmin University, China Agricultural University, Michigan University, Ford Foundation, World Bank, Asian Development Bank, etc.

     The workshop discussed 8 topics: Farm Income and Equality in the poor regions, labor transfer, public goods supply in village level , rural education and equality, credit market, community development, urban unemployment and issues closely related to poverty. The exchanges and discussion of the participants not only meet the goal of research outcome servicing policy and project, and also point out future research direction.  

　　Prof. Lubiao Zhang, vice DG of IAE, and Prof. Sangui Wang, deputy director of Poverty Research Committee of Chinese Society of Agro-technical Economics, delivered important address. Research staffs of the Poverty and Development Division of IAE gave 4 project reports on the workshop. 

　　The success of the workshop advances the cooperation of IAE, government departments and international institutions, and will further the research on poverty.
