Prof. Keming Qian Visited JIRCAS Collaboration Agreement Reached
Prof. Keming Qian, DG of IAE, visited JIRCAS on invitation from Jan. 21-28, 2003. Accompanied by Mr. Yamashita Norihiro, Prof. Qian also visited Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Policy Research Institute and other agricultural administration departments and scientific research institutions. During visiting period, the host introduced Japan's experiences in WTO agricultural negotiation, Japan's food safety issues and policy measures, research developments of agriculture, forestry and fisheries, and agricultural multifunction research status. Prof. Qian accessed to many Japanese agricultural development policy and planning information, such as "Improvement of Food Safety System and Policy Trend 2003", " Research and Development Strategy for Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries", "WTO Agricultural Negotiation Status", etc. These materials will help us understanding Japan's agricultural development and policy research, and will establish better background for further cooperation between Sino-China in the field of agricultural economics. Two reports, "Effects of WTO Accession on China's Major Farm Produce's Production and Trade" and " China's Agricultural Domestic Support Policy" , were gave by Prof. Qian during his visits to JIRCAS and Policy Research Institute for Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries. Issues related to sino-Japan cooperation in WTO negotiation and agricultural bilateral trade were widely discussed by Prof. Qian and Japanese agricultural officials and scholars. During Prof. Qian's visit to Policy Research Institute for Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, they talked about to organize a Northeast workshop on agricultural products trade and policy, together with Korean Institute of Rural Economy, in the second half year of 2003 in Seoul, Korea. They design to hold a ASEAN, China, Japan and Korea workshop on agricultural products trade and policy in 2004.
