Keming Qian, DG of IAE  discussed with heads of 

Japan and Korea agricultural policy research institutions on 

holding Northeast Asian Agricultural Forum

 

After Prof. Keming Qian put forward the suggestion of strengthening  Sino-Japan-Korea agricultural economy and policy collaborative research during his visit to Japan in Jan. 21-28, 2003, Porf. Qian made an appointment with  Director General of Korean Rural Economics Institute to visit Japan in March 18-20, and discuss the specific frame of the three nation's cooperation in agricultural economy and policy with Director General of Policy Research Institute, Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Japan. 

After two-day discussion, the three directors decided to initiate "Northeast Asian Agricultural Forum" jointly. the main aim of the forum is to strengthen Northeast Asian agricultural economy and policy collaborative research,  advance the information exchange and dialogue among counties in agricultural decision-making level. The forum planned to hold a workshop on agriculture and trade policy alternately in the three countries each year; set up an agency for collaborative research, academic exchange and publications exchange among the  three institutes; establish a website for "Northeast Asian Agricultural Forum". And publish English version of "Northeast Asian Agricultural Forum" journal when conditions mature. 

It is said that the first "Northeast Asian Agricultural Forum" workshop would be held in Seoul in this November, and the next workshop will  be held in IAE next year.
